Treasure Island Music Festival 2013

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending my very 1st Treasure Island Music Festival on Treasure Island in San Francisco. How I'd never been to this festival before (especially considering the fact I haven't missed a single Outside Lands since that festival 1st started) is beyond me.

The venue is absolutely GORGEOUS; the setup was small, intimate & easy to navigate; the free shuttles to & from the venue were fantastic; the lineup was STACKED & the weather (despite being pretty cold on night 2) was quite beautiful for mid-October in SF.

It was also super fun getting to bring my good friend Ashley (along with her cool-as-sh*t boyfriend, Joey) to her very 1st music festival EVER! We partied it up & danced it up BIG time. I'll definitely be back!!

Nosetalgia by Pusha T featuring Kendrick Lamar

I love it when feuding rappers are able to put their differences aside & flow together over a sick beat...while ambling along the streets of Compton. It's so sweet :)

The Blast, The Bloom by Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band

Tunde Adebimpe of TV On The Radio has a side project called Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band for which he just directed & animated the official video for the track The Blast, The Bloom & it's pretty fantastic.

Afterlife by Arcade Fire (NEW!!!)

Arcade Fire released the 2nd single from their very-much-buzzed about, upcoming new album Reflektor today & I just listened to this 1 song 4x in a row! It's SO good! I'd heard the live version of this track for the 1st time on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago on 9/28 & I liked it but this studio recorded version has got me hooked....even though I'm already fully hooked on Arcade Fire.

I'm ready for the full album release so I can listen to it straight through over & over & over!!!

Before Your Very Eyes by Atoms for Peace (OFFICIAL VIDEO!)

Atoms for Peace premiered a new, creepy, trippy, stop motion video for the song Before Your Very Eyes last night at Hollywood Bowl. It pained me to miss last night's Bowl show but, because I'm seeing Atoms in only 2 short days at Treasure Island Music Festival in SF, I was able to control myself...for once. I'm SO excited for Saturday night!

Animal Collective This Saturday @ Treasure Island Music Festival in SF!!!

If Animal Collective plays at least 1 of my 2 all-time favorite AC songs this Sunday evening at Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco, I'll be a happy camper (even though TI isn't a camping music fest).

Hoping for For Reverend Green is probably more of a long shot than In The Flowers but I'll just hope for both. I know Animal Collective isn't for everyone but, even if their music doesn't immediately seem like your cup of tea, I still encourage anyone who considers music to be art to at least check out part of their set if you can. There are no set conflicts at Treasure Island Music Festival (which is the most astonishing thing about it so far!) so, if you're on the island on Sunday, you have no excuse to miss Animal Collective!

Robert DeLong Performing Religious Views & Global Concepts LIVE #JamInTheVan

I've had 2 chances to see Robert DeLong in the past few months &, both times, I've failed. At Coachella 2013, his set was WAY to early for me to feasibly catch it which is just the way the cookie crumbles every year out in the desert. Then, a couple months later, I'd planned to attend to Make Music Pasadena primarily to see Robert but, in the end, because I already had tickets for !!! (Chk Chk Chk) at El Rey Theatre that same night, I got lazy & decided to save my concert energy for another intense !!! dance party.

This weekend, I'll hopefully finally see Robert DeLong perform live at Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco (my 1st TI Fest EVER!). His set is at 2pm Saturday which is still a bit too early for my liking (since Atoms for Peace's closing set doesn't end until 11pm) BUT I'm gonna do my best to catch Robert this time! I want to see some of his crazy looping antics live!

My Morning Jacket, Brittany Howard, Merrill Garbus (aka tUnE-yArDs) & The Roots Perform Fela Kuti's Trouble Wake Yanga Wake Am on Fallon - 10/11/13

Watch & listen to My Morning Jacket, Brittany Howard (of Alabama Shakes), Merrill Garbus (aka tUnE-yArDs) & The Roots Perform Fela Kuti's Trouble Wake Yanga Wake Am on Latenight with Jimmy Fallon.

Fallon has been killing it lately with all his rad musical guests/collaborations. I hope it keeps it up when he takes over for Leno because I think it's good for America to be exposed to these incredible artists they can't &/or don't hear playing on the radio everyday.

Sinful Nature by Bear In Heaven

This excellent track off Bear In Heaven's 2012 album I Love You, It's Cool has a very creepy Pretty Woman inspired video.

Phophorescent @ El Rey Theatre - 10/1/13

I'm so happy Ticketmaster released last minute day-of tickets for Phosphorescent at El Rey Theatre last Tuesday so I could snag one for myself! I'd missed Phosphorescent at Troubadour a few months back & was bummed because there's a lot buzz lately about this Alabama native (whose real name is Matthew Houck) so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about! Over the summer, Phosphorescent's track Song For Zula was topping many a best songs (so far) of 2013 list. It's especially nice live. Check it out!

Cruel City by Augustines (NEW!)

Call me crazy but I think the lead singer of Augustines (previously We Are Augustines) kinda looks like Brad Pitt. He's cute! That aside, I've been a fan of this band ever since I 1st heard the track Chapel Song in the most amazing snowboarding documentary I've ever seen, The Art of Flight:

Sirens by Pearl Jam (NEW Official Video!)

I'm SO excited to see Pearl Jam for my 2nd time (the 1st was at the 2nd Outside Lands ever many years ago) on November 24th at Los Angeles Sports Arena! I've never been to a show there before so I'm not sure how I feel about the venue choice but hopefully Pearl Jam wouldn't play a shitty venue...right??

Life Round Here by James Blake

After hearing this track, I'm very tempted to snag a ticket to one of James Blake's upcoming 2 shows in Los Angeles (10/22 at The Wiltern & 10/23 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery). Take a listen & you might be tempted too!

The XX, Chromatics & Austra @ Hollywood Bowl - 9/29/13

Last Sunday night, I was lucky enough to go see Austra, Chromatics & The XX at Hollywood Bowl with 3 of my favorite people. Knowing it was my last Bowl show of the season made it slightly bittersweet but I couldn't have asked for more fantastic triple act lineup, more beautiful end of summer evening weather OR a more kickass concert crew so I've got no complaints! :)

At first, I thought Chromatics were the only opener so Austra was icing on the cake! The lead singer of Austra has such a gorgeous voice you'd almost think she used to sing opera (maybe she did...I need to look that up! lol). Chromatics were super funky & groovy &, although I couldn't place their track from the Drive soundtrack precisely at the time they were playing it, I later realized the reason I recognized & liked the song so much was because it was in that dark & moody Ryan Gosling movie with that RAD soundtrack!

Finally, the headlining act, The XX, were better than I could've possibly hoped they'd be. Previously, I'd only caught a couple songs of The XX's sets at both Coachella & Sasquatch but I'd never seen a full performance thinking I'd get bored &/or the songs would start to sound repetitive. It turns out I didn't get bored AT ALL &, despite a lot of their tracks having a similar vibe, The XX is certainly able to pull off a fantastic, full-length show.

The 2014 Bowl season can't get here soon enough. I love that venue SO much!!
