Sigur Rós' wild new video for Brennisteinn (released this morning) got me more excited than ever to finally see this Icelandic band notorious for being incredible live for my 1st time 3 weeks from tomorrow of Day 2 of Coachella!!

Mos Def @ The Belasco - 3/20/13

Mos Def, Slug (of Atmosphere) & Brother Ali are my top 3 favorite individual hip hop artists so getting to see Mos Def last night at The Belasco in Downtown LA (for only $25/ticket via Goldstar!) was quite a treat!

The unusually ornate theater was PACKED so my girl, Sarah, & I didn't have the best spot in the crowd & the audio sounded a bit muffled but we still had a great time & it was evident Mos Def aka Yasiin Bey aka Dante Terrell Smith was showing everyone there quite clearly WHAT IT IS.

Buying tickets yesterday for Mos Def (who I most definitely LOVE) at The Belasco in Downtown LA next Wednesday 3/20 has gotten me on an extra big hip hop kick. I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing A$AP ROCKY sometime soon. Why aren't there more hip hop shows in LA?!?

I can't wait for Portugal, The Man to release their new album on 6/4/13. I also LOVE that it was produced by my FAVE producer (& sometimes best friend...'cuz I've now run into him at 3 shows!!), Danger Mouse!

Efterklang @ The Echoplex - 3/9/13

So, after having an absolute (& totally unexpected) BLAST at Pickwick at The Echo on Saturday night, I got to head straight on downstairs to The Echoplex to check out Efterklang from Denmark. At the time, I'd only heard 2 or 3 Efterklang songs ever but I thought they were pretty & figured they'd put on at least a decent show. Turns out...Efterklang puts on an UNBELIEVABE live show! And the female vocalist they recently added to their live ensemble is a wonder! Her voice is surreal. Plus, she's fuckin hot! I can hardly believe Efterklang ever performed without her!

The male lead singer, Casper Clausen, is also a bad ass. Check out my 1st video below for a glimpse of Casper's dramatic genius. And get on the Efterklang train like I just did because they've got TONS of gorgeous music available online & are another MUST SEE live act.

Pickwick @ The Echo - 3/9/13

My new favorite band of the month is PICKWICK!! My super music-savvy friend from San Jose, Chris, posted a couple Pickwick songs on his Facbook page on Friday because he was going to see them in SF that night. Because I was diggin' the 2 tracks Chris posted, I was prompted to check Pickwick's tour dates hoping they'd be playing in LA next instead of having JUST played LA the night before SF (because that's often the case) & I was SO stoked to learn Pickwick was playing The Echo the very next night!

It worked out perfectly that I already had tix to see Efterklang at The Echoplex (directly below The Echo) at 11pm while Pickwick's headlining set was actually quite early at 8:50pm so The Echo's weekly Saturday night event, Funky Sole, could begin at 10. The timing couldn't have been more perfect & neither could be both Pickwick & Efterklang's sets. More on Efterklang tomorrow...

Pickwick is band full of energy, funk & soul. Every song is unique from the last & these guys just put on an ridiculously fun show. I don't think anyone could see Pickwick perform & not be impressed. I also challenge anyone to see a Pickwick show & NOT at least shake his/her hips a lil bit...because I'd imagine it'd be impossible :)

If Pickwick comes to your town, PLEASE do yourself a favor & GO SEE THEM!!

To finish off my RAD concert triple-header last weekend, I saw Toro Y Moi & Sinkane at The Fonda. Toro Y Moi was fantastic, as always, but I was even more smitten with Sinkane! I hope to see them again ASAP!

STRFKR @ The Fonda - 3/2/13

After missing STRFKR (aka Starfucker) at several music festivals last year, I was determined to see them at The Fonda last Saturday night...especially after hearing & falling in love with their brand new album Miracle Mile. I had a feeling they've be pretty good live but I had no idea they'd be THIS good!!

Kishi Bashi @ Troubadour - 3/1/13

Kishi Bashi was simply incredible on Friday night at Troubadour. His voice is angelic, his violin playing is awe-inspiring & his looping skills are beyond refined. Both his original material & all of his covers (including a gorgeous rendition of With or Without You by U2) sound phenomenal in person.The man is f*ckin wonder.
