Twin Falcons @ Busby's East - 10/25/11
Twin Falcons have an incredibly unique sound unlike anything else I've ever heard. It's the perfect blend of electronic, funk & rock. They've pretty much created their own new genre of music (elecfunkrock perhaps?) &, even you aren't a big dancer, there's no way you can listen to a TF track without at least tapping your foot.
Twin Falcons is the band everyone was asking me about when they performed at my 1st live music event production Vibe Fest on October 8th at The Vibe Hotel in Hollywood. I felt like a proud parent when I saw the crowd getting crazy groovy dancing during TF's set. Nzo, Byron & Thomas killed it at Vibe Fest just like they do EVERY time.
Mark my words...Twin Falcons are gonna blow up someday very soon & I strongly suggest you start rockin' their EP now before it becomes the "cool" thing to do (because it will). Then you can brag to all your friends later about how "in the know" you were back in Twin Falcons' early days. I'm already bragging :-)

Portishead @ The Shrine Expo - 10/18/11
When Portishead opened for Prince on the 2nd night of Coachella 2008, it was one of the greatest concert experiences of my life so, when I discovered in mid-July (only 1 short hour before the presale) that Portishead was going to play The Shrine Expo in LA on October 18th, I immediately purchased a pair of tickets. And the fact that the tix were $70 a pop didn't even phase me. A Portishead show in LA is an extreme rarity & I knew those tickets would end up being worth every penny...and they were :-)

The Naked & Famous @ The Music Box - 10/17/11
For a long time, the only song I knew by The Naked & Famous was their hit single Young Blood but, after listening to the entire album with my girlfriend Dana on our BEAUTIFUL drive back to Vancouver from Whistler while I was visiting Dana & my other fabulous Canadian Sasquatch friends in mid-September, I ended up falling in love with Passive Me, Aggressive You in its entirety. I also became obsessed with the track No Way after hearing it again in the incredible snowboarding documentary The Art of Flight. So, when I went to see The Naked & Famous on Monday night at The Music Box, I hoped/assumed they'd be pretty good live but I had NO idea just how fantastic they'd be & I definitely have a new girl crush on co-lead singer Alisa Xayalith.

Amon Tobin @ The Music Box - 10/16/11
I rarely go to shows by myself but, every once in a while, an artist comes to town who I simply cannot miss so, when I managed to find a super last minute ticket to the sold out Amon Tobin show on Sunday night at The Music Box, I just HAD to go. To find out why, just WATCH...

VIBE FEST @ The Vibe Hotel on Hollywood Blvd - 10/8/11
After months of work, stress & anxiety, VIBE FEST (the 1st live music event I ever produced...along with my 2 fabulous, music-loving collaborators, Melissa & Katie) was a HUGE success!! I couldn't be happier about how everything turned out &, because I couldn't put it any better myself, please check out the article below by Emily Green of http://la.guestofaguest.com/ (the original article can be found at http://la.guestofaguest.com/la-shows/three-chicks-one-dream-inside-the-first-ever-vibe-fest/) then check out some my own personal videos from VIBE FEST!!!
Between FILTER Magazine's Culture Collide Festival to Incan Abraham's record release show and partying with Cut Copy, we have been all about music this week and we still haven't even gotten to last weekend's first ever Vibe Fest in Hollywood. The event at the Vibe Hotel was the brainchild of three young ladies who decided to take a risk and produce their very own mini music festival, just like that.
Vibe Fest producers Lauren Boitano, Melissa Taylorand Katie Limle picked the Vibe Hotel on Hollywood Blvd for the event, a place you've probably passed a million times but never noticed. A stroke of genius on their part, the dive-y throwback motor hotel was the ideal setting for the occasion, boasting a central courtyard with plenty of room for a stage, foosball, and ping pong, a tiki garden for food and drinks, and a special room for DJ sets and dancing.
An eclectic crowd moseyed through the various areas set up for the day-long music event where festers enjoyed an all-L.A. local lineup that included acoustic performances by Steffaloo, Eric Edmond Vasquez, as well as sets from bands Josh Boyd and The Bedroom Band, Twin Falcons, Atlantic Line and headliner The Ross Sea Partywho killed it to close out the night. While guests swayed and tapped their feet to the live music as they sipped on beer and wine, the DJ room was POPPING OFF with a serious dance party thanks to sets spun by PZB, Heavy Accents and Merbert Moover.
Somehow Cheez-Its became a popular part of the equation in there but nobody seemed to know where they came from. Regardless, Cheez-Its are delicious and a welcome addition to any activity in my book.
Props to Melissa, Lauren and Katie for not just talking about it, but being about it and putting together a successful first Vibe Fest. Same time next year?

Little Dragon @ The Avalon in Hollywood - 10/6/11
After stealthily hanging Little Dragon posters around the UCLA campus a few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to earn 2 free tickets to their October 6th show at The Avalon in Hollywood & I must admit it made me feel kinda special to claim my free tix from will call. Saving $70+ didn't hurt either &, as expected, Little Dragon was fantastic.
