I can't wait to see Ghostland Observatory again on Sunday, May 8th at Club Nokia in Downtown LA! They are SO good live! And their laser light show is UNBELIEVABLE!

Lotus Flower by Radiohead (BRAND NEW!)
This song is unbelievably amazing...as are Thom's dance moves :-)
More from The King of Limbs to come. The entire album is a masterpiece.

The Grammys 2011
OK so I know I'm 2 days late but my roomie & I just got done watching The Grammys on our DVR & we were really impressed! Barely any awards & tons of cool performances (minus the Cee Lo/Gwyneth Sesame Street puppet performance)!
I was originally turned off by the opening hourlong Aretha tribute (even though I LOVE Florence) but, after that, things took a turn for the better! Highlights included Lady Gaga, Muse, Janelle Monae, Usher (Bieber...not so much although we can't wait 'til he turns 18!), the Mumford & Sons/Avett Brothers/Bob Dylan collaboration, Katy Perry (I can't believe I just said that but she was cute), Rihanna (both times...especially w/Eminem in her hot burnt up ballgown), Dr. Dre's unexpected cameo, Mick shakin' his bony hips &, last, but MOST DEFINITELY not least, ARCADE FIRE!!! I'm SO happy AF won Album of the Year even though the average American may sadly STILL not know who they are. Eminem & Lady Antebellum can suck it!!
Only one question remains: WTF is the difference between Record of the Year & Album of the Year??

BIG BOI & Cee Lo @ Club Nokia - 2/11/11
Although I found it a little odd Big Boi opened for Cee Lo last night at Club Nokia in Downtown LA & my concert buddy & I didn't stay for all of Cee Lo's set (we caught ~5 songs then left just before midnight), I was SUPER impressed by Big Boi's performance. I was fully expecting Big Boi to be announced as a headliner for Coachella &/or Sasquatch after I bought a pair of tix for his Club Nokia show for $75/piece but I knew getting to see him in a more intimate setting would be rad no matter what. I'd also never been to Club Nokia before so I was looking forward to checking out a new venue.
Our seats were fantastic, Club Nokia was awesome & Big Boi was phenomenal. He performed a TON of Outkast hits (which the audience LOVED) along with some of the best tracks of his latest solo album. Some of his featured surprise guests included Sleepy Brown & Janelle Monae (check out her killer dance moves at the end of Bombs Over Baghdad below). I was very pleased :-)

The Past Is A Grotesque Animal by Of Montreal
The past is a grotesque animal
And in its eyes you see
How completely wrong you can be
How completely wrong you can be
The sun is out, it melts the snow that fell yesterday
Makes you wonder why it bothered
I fell in love with the first cute girl that I met
Who could appreciate Georges Bataille
Standing at Swedish festival discussing "Story of the Eye"
Discussing "Story of the Eye"
It's so embarrassing to need someone like I do you
How can I explain, I need you here and not here too
How can I explain, I need you here and not here too
I'm flunking out, I'm flunking out, I'm gone, I'm just gone
But at least I author my own disaster
At least I author my own disaster
Performance breakdown and I don't want to hear it
I'm just not available
Things could be different but they're not
Things could be different but they're not
The mousy girl screams, "Violence! Violence!"
The mousy girl screams, "Violence! Violence!"
She gets hysterical because they're both so mean
And it's my favorite scene
But the cruelty's so predictable
It makes you sad on the stage
Though our love project has so much potential
But it's like we weren't made for this world
(Though I wouldn't really want to meet someone who was)
Do I have to scream in your face?
I've been dodging lamps and vegetables
Throw it all in my face, I don't care
Let's just have some fun
Let's tear this shit apart
Let's tear the fucking house apart
Let's tear our fucking bodies apart
But let's just have some fun
Somehow you've red-rovered the gestapo circling my heart
And nothing can defeat you
No death, no ugly world
You've lived so brightly
You've altered everything
I find myself searching for old selves
While speeding forward through the plate glass of maturing cells
I've played the unraveler, the parhelion
But even apocalypse is fleeting
There's no death, no ugly world
Sometimes I wonder if you're mythologizing me like I do you
Mythologizing me like I do you
We want our film to be beautiful, not realistic
Perceive me in the radiance of terror dreams
And you can betray me
You can, you can betray me
But teach me something wonderful
Crown my head, crowd my head
With your lilting effects
Project your fears on to me, I need to view them
See, there's nothing to them
I promise you, there's nothing to them
I'm so touched by your goodness
You make me feel so criminal
How do you keep it together?
I'm all, all unraveled
But you know, no matter where we are
We're always touching by underground wires
I've explored you with the detachment of an analyst
But most nights we've raided the same kingdoms
And none of our secrets are physical
None of our secrets are physical
None of our secrets are physical now.

TORO Y MOI
I saw Toro Y Moi open for Nosaj Thing at El Rey back in November (see http://www.trendymusicguide.com/2010/11/nosaj-thing-toro-y-moi-el-rey-theatre.html) & I was incredibly impressed. TYM's recorded music is rad but you develop a whole new appreciation for it once you see him live. Toro Y Moi is another Coachella MUST see!

Eric Edmond @ TRiP in Santa Monica on His 30th Birthday
Last Friday night, on his 30th birthday, my good friend Eric Edmond played his very first solo show since departing from his last project The Muddy Reds & I am SO proud of him because he frickin KILLED IT! Not only did Eric manage to rally over 70 people to show up at TRiP in time for his 8pm set but he also donated 100% of his proceeds to his recently & tragically murdered friend's 15 month old daughter's trust fund.
For more info &/or to learn how to donate, please go to http://www.kayleesangel.com/
Keep eye out for Eric's future shows in/around the LA area. I'm definitely looking forward to them.
